Back by popular demand, Women in Jazz will perform an April birthday salute to three Great Ladies of Song:  Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Carmen McRae.  With musical direction by Marion Hayden (bassist), she and her trio including Ellen Rowe (pianist) and Gayelynn McKinney (drummer) invite you to take stroll down memory lane.  We’ll revisit the days of the Savoy Ballroom for classics such as “How High The Moon,” “Them There Eyes” and “How Long Has This Been Going On?” in renditions by three marvelous Cleveland singers: Evelyn Wright, Erin Kufel and Marsha Newman.  This will be a memorable afternoon of vocal jazz at its best!

Detroit native Marion Hayden has performed with artists including Regina Carter, Marcus Belgrave, Ralph Peterson, Ray Brooks, Kirk Lightsey, Kenny Burrell and James Carter.  She serves on the faculty at University of Michigan and performs regularly with her band Straight Ahead.
